A significant proportion (25%) of Barrack Heights Public School's student population is Aboriginal, and the school is focused on addressing the needs of these students.
All staff are trained in the Illawarra South East Region cultural training package No Gap, No Excuse. We utilise the knowledge of the local community through engagement of Elders in all schol programs, ensuring that Aboriginal culture and history are taught with respect and integrity.
In addition to celebrating significant Aboriginal events such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, the school is this year running two targeted Aboriginal programs for our students: Ngargins Yarn-Up and Ngargin Doctors.
